This last few weeks I have found my self losing plenty of time in Auto Club Revolution, a free-to-play online racing title that at least from my perspective seems to have cropped up out of nowhere, coming from the developers at Eutechnyx, who are one of the rare games developers that have been around since the mid 80’s, although back in those days the company was called Zeppelin Games, then later Merit Studios Europe. If I’m honest I haven’t heard of them before, but after checking their history, I have played a few of their titles.Given that this developer has been around for so long it’s hard not to have seen some of their work, while they may not be headline news with some of their past releases, although they do have titles going all the way back to the Atari 8 bit! ———————–Setting up this title was a breeze, a quick registration and download of the launcher was all it took and I was ready to go in about 30min (includes download time).

I really liked the fact that you don’t need to download the whole game to play too, once the basics are downloaded, the rest of the tracks are downloaded in the back ground, unlocking in the game as they complete, meaning you don’t have to wait till it’s at 100% to get in on the action, or of course you could just download the bits you want. The games menus and interface are all dealt with in your web browser, for those of you who are familiar with Battlefield 3’s Battle Log, this system will come as no stranger to you. ———————–Gameplay is obviously focused on one thing here, racing! Fortunately there is plenty of racing to be had too, with a great selection of tracks to choose from and a massive selection of licensed cars to choose from to keep many racing fans entertained. While you start out with a selection of one of a couple of starter cars, from which you can either rent or purchase more cars via micro-transactions (with your own money), you are able to unlock more cars by levelling up. For every four levels you increase a new car becomes unlocked and you move up the ranks to higher classes of vehicle. The game also features a rather sturdy device support list too, I have been able to play this game using a variety of USB game pads, xbox 360 controllers, the Logitech G27 and even the Thrustmaster T500RS wheel with no problems. With a handling system that is very similar to Gran Turismo that really makes for a great driving experience, no matter what controller you chose. There are plenty of options on offer for racing too, with everything from single player time attacks, loads of online multiplayer modes from normal racing to elimination, custom games, challenges, weekly leader boards and all the usual Exp and unlockable rewards to go with each.

———————–So there we have it, Auto Club Revolution really has been quite a surprise for me this last few weeks, while it may take a little while to get going in terms of unlocking cars and finding your way around its many options, there are plenty of little bits of advice and active chat room boxes on most pages that can help you through it all.
